Rea Kapur is a Bay Area based comedian, almost professional filmmaker, and devout lesbian. She’s performed at shows like Mental Health Comedy Hour, Crazy Funny Asians, and Comedy Oakland, as well as hosting & featuring for the patron saint of mental health comedy, Maria Bamford. Rea’s brutal honesty and quick wit make her a dazzling, dynamic, and sometimes depressingly relatable comedian. She uses comedy as a means of connection and education, breaking down barriers with laughter to discuss difficult topics and advocate for mental health reform. Though a newcomer to the stand up scene, Rea is quickly rising. (Like literally, she's stoned right now.) She loves the Bay Area comedy scene but would love to perform in other places too! (Her therapist says she should get out more.)
Come out to one of her shows. Or not. So what? Who cares? (Okay, Rea does.)

At 16, Rea started her comedy journey by taking improv classes at her local community college and acting in a sketch show with Black Cat Comedy at American Improv Theatre. There, Rea learned the basic principles of comedy and how to apply them to her own creative endeavors. A year later, Rea wrote and directed a full length sketch show (while acting too!) about the hypocrisies of religion titled "A Sign From God". In the summer of 2019, Rea traveled to Chicago, wanting to make it big at Second City and enmesh herself into a world of improv and sketch. She returned to the Bay Area just three months later for mental health related issues.
In 2022, Rea was brought on as a co writer for a popular San Francisco queer web series starring award winning drag kings and local celebrities, Vera and Jota Mercury. They invited Rea to perform at their bimonthly variety drag show with their troupe, Rebel Kings of Oakland (RKO). Though she had only performed stand up a handful times over her life, Rea showed up to RKO in Febuary 2023 and did a five minute set while being showered in dollar bills by hot queer people. She hasn't looked back since.
In January 2024, Rea was one of the top two winners at the San Jose Improv open mic, opening new doors for her. In May 2024, a really cool lady named Maria Bamford watched Rea's clip and picked her to host & feature for her sold out show at the SJ Improv.
